Holec and Young Eye Care is seeking a motivated and patient-focused Optometric Technician to join our Rapid City, SD team. As a five-doctor optometric practice, we provide comprehensive eye care while focusing on creating a comfortable, professional experience for every patient.
The Optometric Technician plays an important role in supporting our doctors and helping patients throughout their eye care journey. This position combines hands-on clinical support, patient education, and administrative responsibilities in a team-oriented healthcare environment.
Compensation:
Starting pay is $18/hour and may vary based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities include:
- Provide exceptional patient care while creating a welcoming and professional experience
- Gather patient medical history, chief concerns, and relevant information prior to examinations
- Prepare patient charts and maintain confidentiality of all patient records
- Perform pre-examination testing including visual acuity testing, auto refraction, tonometry, color vision testing, and other diagnostic procedures as appropriate
- Accurately document patient information, test results, and clinical findings in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Explain testing procedures clearly and help patients feel comfortable throughout their visit
- Assist patients with the dilation process and provide guidance during examinations
- Support contact lens education, including insertion and removal training when needed
- Maintain and clean examination equipment and instruments according to office procedures
- Provide administrative support including medical record preparation, scanning, faxing, copying, phone calls, and data entry
- Assist with billing support and other office needs as requested
- Work closely with doctors and team members to maintain efficient patient flow
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working directly with patients. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are important.
Previous experience in optometry, healthcare, medical assisting, or patient care is helpful but not required. A high school diploma is preferred, and candidates with eye care training or related experience are encouraged to apply.
Schedule:
- Office hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Saturday mornings, 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- Typical schedule: approximately 8:00 AM – 5:45 PM four days per week (day off determined with the team) and every other Saturday from 7:00 AM – 12:15 PM
